Hurricane Preparedness Checklist

Make sure you are prepared for next hurricane season with this Hurricane Protection Checklist!

In this blog post, I will provide a checklist to help better prepare you for a hurricane that’s approaching. Living in Florida, there are frequent hurricanes that haunt the state. This checklist should help you prepare for emergencies. Without further to do, I present to you the hurricane preparedness checklist:

First I will provide you with a checklist of supplies to keep on hand for the hurricane because you never know how long your hurricane isolation might last. It is best to save up supplies for at least 72 hours worth.

  • AM/FM Radio

  • Batteries

  • Emergency Kit

  • At least 3 days worth of Non-perishable food

  • At least 3 days worth of water bottles/jugs

  • Necessary Medications for at least 1 week

  • Flashlights

  • Generator

  • Some type of hurricane shutters (accordion shutters, Bahama shutters, colonial shutters, storm panels).

  • Toilet Paper

  • Soap/Toothpaste

  • Strike Matches

  • Candles

  • Pet food/supplies

  • Multi-Purpose Tools (Swiss Army Knife)

Next, I will provide a checklist of things you need to do in order to prepare you and your property:

  • Fill up all of your cars gas tanks in case of an emergency evacuation

  • Move all patio furniture and potential airborne projectiles inside or into the garage

  • Move cars from underneath trees and powerlines

  • Cut down old trees and remove debris from the yard

  • Make sure to keep all phones charged in case of an emergency

  • If you are deploying storm panels, plan out at least 6 hours worth of time

  • If you are deploying accordion shutters or roll-ups plan 30 minutes to deploy

  • Make sure to cover all windows and doors with hurricane shutters

  • Help out your neighbors because objects in their yard can be potential projectiles against your home

  • Find a shelter room in the house that is the furthest away from windows

Now that you have read this blog post and put it to good use, you will be prepared for what’s to come. Remember, it is better to over-prepare them to under prepare.
